Ukrainian president says he is ready for a long war and rejects the idea of a compromise with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a speech on September 10 that he is emotionally prepared for a long war and believes that now is a "bad time" for negotiations with Russia. He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to wear down Ukraine, but Russia itself is fragile.
Also, the Ukrainian president categorically rejects the idea of a compromise with Putin. The war will continue "as long as Russia remains on Ukrainian territory," the Kiev leader said. At the same time, Zelenski was confident that a possible negotiation agreement would not be permanent.
Peace talks with Russia are currently out of reach because "it takes two to dance a tango," US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also said. According to the official, if Russian President Vladimir Putin shows interest, the Ukrainians will join, reports ABC News. "Right now, we see no sign that Putin is interested in meaningful diplomacy. If he shows interest, I think the Ukrainians will be the first to be involved, and we will be right behind them. Everyone wants this war to end."
At the end of this July, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that his country was ready to negotiate a peace agreement, although this would certainly require Ukraine to give up about 20% of its territory occupied by Russia.
