Moldova's EU accession prospects boosted by Ursula von der Leyen's statements

The authorities in Chisinau have welcomed the statements by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who said that the future of Moldova lies in the European Union.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration noted that Moldova has made significant progress on its path to EU accession in recent years, and that these encouraging statements are a confirmation of the country's efforts.

"We are proud of the progress we have made so far and we are determined to continue working on implementing the nine recommendations of the European Commission so that we can have a positive opinion on the opening of accession negotiations by the end of this year. A Moldova firmly anchored in European values and norms will benefit both its citizens and the entire region," the MAEIE said in a press release.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today in a speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg that the future of Ukraine, Moldova, and the Western Balkans lies in the European Union.
