EU to send aid to Libya after floods

The European Union announced today that it is sending aid from Romania, Germany, and Finland to the Libyan city of Derna, which has been devastated by floods, according to AFP.

The aid includes tents, sleeping mats, blankets, generators, food, and water tanks, according to a statement from the EU executive.

A first tranche of €500,000 has already been released to address the most urgent needs of the Libyan people.

The announcement comes after Storm Daniel, a Mediterranean cyclone, struck eastern Libya on Sunday afternoon, killing more than 5,300 people and leaving another 10,000 missing.
