Guterres to meet with Zelensky, Erdogan, Lavrov to break logjam on grain export deal

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov next week to discuss a deal to export grain from Ukraine through the Black Sea, Ukrainskaia Pravda reports.

The meeting will take place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, which will be held in New York from September 19 to 26.

Guterres said he is "committed to doing everything possible to restore the grain export initiative of the Black Sea and to continue working to facilitate, within the framework of the sanctions regime, the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilisers."

Russia has been blocking the export of grain from Ukraine, a major global producer of wheat and corn. The blockade has led to a global food crisis, with prices for food staples rising sharply.
