Igor Dodon is free to leave the territory of the Republic of Moldova, but he must attend the court hearings
The former president Igor Dodon, accused in several criminal cases, is free to move outside the Republic of Moldova, being obliged to appear at court hearings. The Supreme Court of Justice rejected the prosecutor's request to extend the ban by another 60 days.
Ex-president Igor Dodon, targeted in several criminal cases, can leave the territory of the Republic of Moldova, but he is obliged to appear at the date and time of the established meetings, following yesterday's decision of the Supreme Court of Justice.
We remind you that, in the "Black Bag" file, Igor Dodon is accused of illicit enrichment, accepting the financing of the party by an organized criminal group, passive corruption and treason.
He was detained in May last year, and for six months he was under house arrest, later being placed under judicial control. In October 2022, the "Black Bag" case reached the Supreme Court of Justice.
In the middle of July, this year, the court decided that Igor Dodon should remain under judicial control, with the prohibition to leave the Republic of Moldova. The prosecutors accuse the former head of state of claiming over one million dollars from the former leader of the Democrats Vladimir Plahotniuc, to promote the interests of the Democratic Party of Moldova.
Among the evidence in the file are the images in which Igor Dodon receives from the oligarch a black bag, supposedly containing money. Igor Dodon is the first state president tried for the possible crime, committed during the period in which he held office.
The former president declared, after the meeting, that he does not intend to leave the borders of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the legislation, such crimes are punishable by imprisonment of up to 20 years.
