Marcel Ciolacu: The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine must start EU accession negotiations by this year-end

The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine must start accession negotiations to the European Union by the end of the year, said the Romanian Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu, for the Austrian publication Der Standard.

Being asked about the country's accession to NATO, the Romanian official mentioned that, from a constitutional point of view, the Republic of Moldova is neutral. At the same time, he believes that the Chisinau authorities have achieved energy independence from the Russian Federation.

Also, Marcel Ciolacu stated that a signal should also be set for North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia, otherwise, frustration will increase in these countries.

The head of the Bucharest executive also said that Romania has met all the criteria for joining the Schengen area and if the Austrian government insists on abusing its right of veto, the Bucharest authorities will sue Austria at the European Court of Justice. Marcel Ciolacu added that Austria will have to bear the losses recorded by Romania.
