Maia Sandu: The risk of situation destabilization by the Russian Federation persists, but we are confident that we will be supported by EU and NATO friendly countries

After the start of the war in Ukraine, the Kremlin turned its attention to the Republic of Moldova, implicitly to the Transnistrian region. Russia blackmailed it from an energy point of view, launched a hybrid war, but our country will continue to resist, thanks to the support offered by the European and North Atlantic partners, said in an interview for France24, the head of state, Maia Sandu .

"The risk of destabilization of the situation by the Russian Federation persists, but we are certain that in any situation the Republic of Moldova will be supported by friendly countries from the European Union and NATO. We have long-term cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance, but this does not mean that the country renounces its neutrality status, stipulated in the constitution. Now it is important to increase resilience, to implement reforms that would bring us closer to European standards. We have to focus on this aspect", declared Maia Sandu.

We remind that President Maia Sandu is participating in the 78th session of the General Assembly, which is being held in New York.

According to her, despite recent challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia's war against Ukraine, our country has strengthened its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, from 48th in 2021 to 25th place in 2023 in the UN Ranking.
