Pope Francis condemned the "senseless war" in his traditional Christmas message

Pope Francis called for the "guns to fall silent" in Ukraine after a "senseless war" in his traditional Christmas message from the Vatican on Sunday, in which he once again evoked a "third world war", informs international media agencies.

Before giving his traditional Christmas blessing, "Urbi et Orbi", Pope Francis gave his usual overview of conflicts around the world, citing ten countries affected by violence or tension, which he described as "theaters of this third world war". Among the countries mentioned are Afghanistan, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Yemen, Syria, Myanmar, as well as Lebanon, affected by an economic and social crisis, along with Haiti, where more than 1,400 people have been killed in violence this year, according to the UN . For the first time, Pope Francis also mentioned Iran, affected by an unprecedented wave of protests after the Islamic Revolution of 1979. The Vatican leader also asked that food no longer be used "as a weapon", referring particularly to the conflicts affecting the Horn of Africa.
