More safety on national roads: Government approves a project to improve road infrastructure
The road infrastructure will be improved in order to increase the level of traffic safety on public roads in the country, according to a project approved by the Government. The Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu emphasized that the road infrastructure must be designed and operated in such a way as to reduce the risks for all traffic participants.
"Implementation of the road safety law will contribute to raising its level both on newly designed and existing road infrastructures. In addition, it will help us achieve our goals outlined in the national plans and facilitate access to international funding and/or technical assistance programs for strengthening the road safety system at the national level. We see accidents on the roads and practically this project comes to create the legal framework, so that in the coming years we consolidate, to do constructions on public roads, so that the number of accidents and people who suffer decrease", Andrei Spînu said.
The data of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development reveal that last year over 2,300 accidents were registered in road traffic, as a result of which 217 people died.
