One third of the passengers of Iași International Airport are from the Republic of Moldova
One third of the passengers of Iași International Airport are citizens of the Republic of Moldova, the general director of the aeronautical institution, Romeo Vatră, told Radio Moldova. According to him, since the beginning of the year, more than 500 thousand Bessarabians have transited the Iasi Airport. Romeo Vatră emphasized that the main reasons for this large flow of passengers from the Republic of Moldova are the attractiveness of the flights, the affordable prices and the good operation of the airport.
"About 33% of the total number of passengers traveling at the Iași Airport are from the Republic of Moldova. So far, this year, the airport has been transited by 1.5 million passengers, of which over 500 thousand are from Bessarabia. We expect that in 2023 we will have a total flow of more than 2 million passengers. Obviously, after putting the new terminal into use, we will be able to increase the number of passengers up to 3 million per year," said Romeo Vatră.
Romeo Vatră emphasized that the number of Moldovan passengers remains constant at the Iasi Airport despite the announcement by the Moldovan authorities that more flights will be operated by low-cost companies in the Republic of Moldova.
Currently, our country is facing a crisis in terms of air travel due to the war in the neighboring country and especially after Air Moldova temporarily canceled all its flights due to the difficult financial situation.
