Germany to host Ukraine reconstruction conference in 2024
Germany will host the next international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine on June 11, 2024, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced on Wednesday after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York.
The conference will be held in Berlin, according to a statement from the German Chancellery.
The last conference of this kind, held in London in June, brought together leaders and representatives from over 60 countries and financial institutions for two days to unlock funds for the country attacked by Russia.
The goal is to help Ukraine keep its economy afloat and, in the long term, to rebuild its infrastructure and various sectors of activity. The private sector is also being called upon to mobilise.
The German chancellor met with the Ukrainian president for 30 minutes on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The political, military, and humanitarian situation in Ukraine was at the centre of the discussions, according to the Chancellery, with Scholz reaffirming that Germany will continue to support Kyiv.
