ZFR 2023: Romanian cinema comes to Moldova
Dozens of film lovers from Moldova attended the official opening of the Romanian Film Days (ZFR) on September 21, the ninth edition of the event, which is being held in seven other cities in Moldova for the first time this year. The Cineplex Loteanu theatre was packed for the opening.
New and classic Romanian films, loved by audiences and acclaimed by critics, are being screened from September 21, 2023, as part of the Romanian Film Days.
The traditional film event, financed for the third consecutive year by the Department for Relations with Moldova of the Romanian Government, is taking place at Cineplex Moldova (Cineplex Loteanu) in Chisinau until September 24, 2023.
At the same time, the films selected for the ninth edition of ZFR will be screened for the public in Hâncești (September 21), Nisporeni (September 22), Călărași (September 23), Orhei (September 24), Soroca (September 28), Bălți (September 30-October 1) and Cahul (October 7-8).
“This is a landmark event on the cultural agenda of Moldova, and I am glad to see that its scope is growing year after year, with more and more people wanting to watch the films selected for ZFR. It is an extraordinary thing that, this year too, Romanian films will be screened not only in Chisinau but also in seven other cities in Moldova. This gives more film lovers the opportunity to see masterpieces of Romanian cinema. There are both new and established films. I am glad that we have the director Cristian Mungiu with us, who I believe is known and loved not only by the public in Romania, but also by the public in Moldova and beyond,” said State Secretary of DRRM Adrian Dupu, at the opening of ZFR.
The opening event of ZFR in Chisinau was attended by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, Sergiu Prodan, State Secretary of DRRM, Adrian Dupu, Ambassador of Romania to Moldova, H.E. Cristian-Leon Turcanu, Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Moldova, Monica Babuc, General Coordinator of ZFR, Dumitru Grosei, and renowned Romanian director, Cristian Mungiu.

On the first day of the event, film lovers watched the film “R.M.N.” (2022), followed by a discussion with the most titled Romanian director – Cristian Mungiu, who is the special guest of this edition.
The hall was packed, and spectators are expected on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the screenings at Cineplex Loteanu. Admission is free, subject to availability.
Tonight, at 9:00 PM, the film “Capra cu trei iezi” will be screened, directed by Victor Canache; actors: Maia Morgenstern, Marius Bodochi, Silviu Corbu, Ilina Răzvan, Antonio Gavrilă.
However, to ensure a seat in the hall, organisers suggest that potential spectators pick up a zero-value ticket from the Cineplex Loteanu box office.
