IMF Mission to Moldova to discuss ECF, EFF, and RSF

Prime Minister Dorin Recean met on September 25 with members of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, led by Clara Mira. The agenda of the meeting included discussions about the 2023 consultations, the lending program, and the resilience and sustainability financing mechanisms.

The meeting also discussed the importance of cooperation with the IMF in supporting Moldova's European path, through institutional strengthening, harmonisation of legislation, alignment with European standards, and minimising vulnerabilities related to climate change.

Prime Minister Recean spoke about the progress of reforms in the justice sector, economic development, entrepreneurship support, and Moldova's European agenda.

"Among the most important priorities of the Government are judicial reform and the fight against corruption. We must ensure the necessary tools for the system to self-cleanse. At the same time, we focus on economic development - it is necessary to offer sustainability and predictability to entrepreneurs. We are also stimulating investments in the energy efficiency sector, which will have a positive long-term impact on both the business environment and communities throughout the country. In this regard, we rely on the support of external partners, including the IMF, for the creation of supportive policies," said Prime Minister Recean.

The IMF mission will be in Moldova from September 25 to October 6, 2023, to discuss the fourth review of the program supported by the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), as well as the authorities' request for support from Moldova under the new Resilience and Sustainability Financing Mechanism (RSF).
