The CEC has ruled in favour of the Balti constituency commission that refused Marine Tauber registration in the electoral race
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today rejected the complaint of MP Marina Tauber, who challenged the refusal of the Balti Constituency Commission to register her as an independent candidate in the race for mayor of Balti. The Balti electoral authorities refused Tauber registration on the grounds that she was a member of the "Shor" party, which was declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court on 19 June.
"The electoral council is obliged to issue the registration act only if the independent candidate intends to collect signatures through an initiative group. In the present case the challenger did not apply for the initiative group. The Commission finds that the Balti Electoral Council No. 2 chose the admissible form of completing the administrative procedure at the request of the contestant", said Ludmila Lupașco, CEC member.
