New design unveiled for Moldova's National Philharmonic
The architectural design for the renovation of the National Philharmonic of Moldova was presented at the Cultural Forum, which was held for the first time in Chișinău. Architects say the vision is based on a modern approach, and the future concert hall will meet acoustic performance standards.
According to representatives of the institution, small but steady steps have been taken over the past three years since the fire that destroyed the National Philharmonic "Serghei Lunchevici" to advance the design and construction of the national importance building.
Over the past three years, projects and actions have been initiated for the renovation of the National Philharmonic, which is the most important national concert institution, said the director of the Philharmonic, Svetlana Bivol. She mentioned that several countries have donated musical instruments and equipment to the Philharmonic's artists.
"Over three years, not very many, but very safe steps have been taken to overcome this problem and to advance the design and construction works of this building. Everyone has been watching us and our colleagues from Romania, Spain, Ukraine have sent us donations in the form of musical scores, instrument accessories, even some instruments, and we all wish that the philharmonic will indeed be reborn and that we will all enjoy that building and the artistic products presented on this stage," said Svetlana Bivol.
The winning project of the International Competition of Architectural Solutions, held last year, belongs to an architectural firm from Germany and was presented today. German architect Thorsten Kock, underlined that it is based on a modern approach, and the future concert hall will meet acoustic performance standards, which is essential for artists.
"You had the opportunity to reflect and say that yes, we have lost something enormous, but we have a new chance. We have complied with those requests, we have done all these things in such a way that we can also have opera concerts, theatre performances. Everything depends on the acoustics of this hall, which is very important for musicians, so that they can hear each other from different places so that we have a corresponding performance," said the architect.
It is worth mentioning that, on September 24, 2020, following a fire, which was allegedly caused by negligence of several workers, a large part of the headquarters of the National Philharmonic "Serghei Lunchevici" was destroyed. The ceiling of the main hall collapsed, and the flames spread inside the building and destroyed the library, the large hall, rehearsal rooms, as well as other spaces, and numerous musical instruments. Since then, the artists of the Philharmonic have held concerts at the Palace of the Republic.
Immediately after the fire, donations were accumulated, which are currently held at the State Treasury, on accounts opened at the time by the Ministry of Finance. They are intended exclusively for the reconstruction of the Philharmonic and will be used when construction works begin. In total, there would be around 6 million lei on the accounts.
