Bridge from Leova-Bumbăta, over the river Prut, does not prove its effectiveness
The bridge from Leova-Bumbăta, over the river Prut, built with great enthusiasm to reduce congestion at the Albița Customs, does not prove its effectiveness, and one of the explanations is that the customs officers at the new border point do not have the necessary infrastructure to carry out appropriate checks , informs Radio Romania News. However, the drivers claim that they bypass this border point, as the route is longer here.
The bridge over the Prut from Bumbăta, a new border crossing point between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, built this year to reduce congestion in Vama Albița, has only one entry into the country and one exit, and the working schedule it's daytime only, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Romanian authorities claim that the objective still does not manage to take over as many vehicles as would be needed to streamline the traffic in Customs Albița.
The mayor of Huși, Ioan Ciupilan, a city through which almost all the trucks that enter Romania pass through Customs Albița, claims that the number of the trucks has increased recently, and their drivers say that they prefer to pass through Customs Albița as well, as they would have to go around if they want to enter Romania via Bumbăta.
The state border crossing point, Leova-Bumbăta, was inaugurated in May. Then the authorities declared that the new point will provide a viable alternative and a necessary measure to streamline cross-border traffic for over 800 thousand citizens and economic agents in the region. At the same time, this crossing point would allow traffic to be cleared in other customs posts, such as Leușeni-Albita or Cahul-Oancea.
