Italian deputy PM meets Zelenskiy in Kiev, talks G7 agenda, weapons, EU accession
Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani met Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskiy in Kiev on the sidelines of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, in a rare high-level visit.
The meeting, which was reportedly one of the few Zelenskiy has had with foreign leaders since the start of the war, was described by the Italian press as taking place "in a spirit of great and special mutual friendship between governments."
Tajani confirmed that Ukraine will be at the top of Italy's G7 agenda, and Zelenskiy welcomed today's declaration of Italian patronage for the reconstruction of Odessa.
The Italian foreign minister also said that Italy is ready to help Ukraine to protect its infrastructure and prepare for the coming winter, and is already working on the eighth package of weapons to be sent to Kiev.
Tajani further assured that Italy will concretely help Ukraine in its EU accession path, also through the support of institutions such as the Financial Guard.
