Moldova to licence wheat, corn, and sunflower imports
Moldova has announced that it will require a licence for the import of wheat, corn, and sunflower seeds. The new measure, which will be in effect during the state of emergency, is aimed at regulating the agricultural trade in the country and ensuring the quality and safety of food for consumers.
"The licensing of cereal imports in the Republic of Moldova is a necessary process for regulating agricultural trade in the country," said Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture. "Our goal is to control and monitor the import of cereals, thus ensuring the quality and safety of food for consumers. At the same time, licensing will contribute to stabilising cereal prices and protecting local producers. In this way, we will be able to establish stricter control over the quality of imported products, ensuring that they meet food safety standards."
According to a decree issued by the Council of Ministers, only economic entities that operate in the production of oil and vegetable fats, animal feed preparations, animal breeding, and milling will be eligible for import licences.
The application for an import licence must be accompanied by documents that justify the need to replenish stocks. The measure does not apply to goods that are already loaded for shipment.
