Klaus Iohannis: It is important that the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine join the EU
It is very important for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to take rapid steps towards European integration, said the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, at the European Political Community Summit in Granada, Spain, on Thursday. Also, the Leader from Bucharest emphasized that the year 2030 for the next wave of expansion is an unrealistic deadline.
Currently, the Republic of Moldova is waiting for the assessment by the European Commission of the fulfillment of the nine conditions provided for in the Notice of granting the status of a candidate country for accession to the EU bloc. The European Commission will meet in October, and in December the European Council will announce the final decision.
We remind you that, yesterday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution in which it recommends starting the accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union by the end of this year.
