Moldovan president accuses Russia of coup attempt
Moldovan President Maia Sandu's recent allegations that Russian mercenaries were behind a failed coup attempt are a warning that the country is facing a hybrid war, according to Mihai Mogîldea, deputy director of the Institute for European Policies and Reforms.
Mogîldea told Radio Moldova that Sandu's statements are also a message to international institutions that can help Moldova in these situations.
"We must see these statements as a reconfirmation of the fact that our country, unfortunately, does not yet have the internal capacity to fight alone against these threats coming from the Russian Federation," Mogîldea said. "European assistance, including on military, security, economic, and energy lines, is essential to succeed in ridding ourselves of the tools of influence of the Russian Federation and to fight as effectively as possible against Russian propaganda and the illegal financing of parties in Moldova."
Mogîldea's comments come after Sandu, in an interview with the Financial Times , said that Moscow is trying to destabilise Moldova through a variety of methods, including hybrid warfare.
