Nicu Popescu leaves for Brussels to promote the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu undertakes a working visit to Brussels in order to promote the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union and to discuss the significant progress made by our country. The announcement was made by Nicu Popescu on his Facebook page.

Thus, during the visit, the deputy prime minister will have meetings with top European officials, such as Olivér Várhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Gert-Jan Koopman, director general of the General Directorate for EU Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations, and other representatives from european institutions.

The visit takes place before the publication of the European Commission's report on enlargement, which will be presented in the first half of November.

We remind you that the Republic of Moldova obtained the status of a candidate state for EU accession in June 2023. This status does not provide the status of a member state of the EU, as the latter requires going through a complex procedure. The Republic of Moldova has committed to fulfill a number of conditions for the EU to start accession negotiations. The Chisinau authorities hope that this will happen by the end of this year.
