Airlines to share passenger data with Moldovan border police to combat terrorism

Moldova's government has approved a decision requiring airlines to share passenger data with a new unit of the country's border police. The move is aimed at strengthening internal security and preventing terrorist attacks.

Under the new rules, airlines will be required to transfer passenger data to the Passenger Information Unit within 48 hours of booking, but no later than 24 hours before departure. In cases where passenger data is not available at the time of booking, airlines will be required to provide updates every two hours. Airlines will also be required to provide the necessary information immediately after passengers board the aircraft.

The data will be transferred exclusively through a "push" method, meaning that it will be automatically delivered to the Passenger Information Unit. The data will be stored for five years. The information collected will be used solely for the purposes specified, in accordance with human rights law and data protection legislation.
