Ursula von der Leyen and Roberta Metsola visit Israel: They will express EU solidarity after Hamas attacks

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, will travel to Israel on Friday to express the EU's solidarity after the bloody offensive by Hamas, their services announced Thursday evening, AFP and Agerpres report.

The two leaders will "express their solidarity with the victims of the Hamas terrorist attacks and will meet with Israeli leaders", reads the statement of the Commission and the Parliament, stating that "the program of the visit will be announced later". On Saturday, October 7, the Palestinian militant group "Hamas" launched a massive attack on Israel.

The number of people killed in Israel has risen to 1,300, most of them civilians shot in their homes, on the streets or at a festival, more than any other attack by Islamists outside September 11, 2001. More than 3,000 people were injured.

The death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached 1,200, and about 5,600 people are injured, Aljazeera reports.
