Expert // About 1.9 million voters present in the country will participate in the general local elections of November 2023
About 1 million 970 thousand voters present in the country will participate in the general local elections of November 2023. The estimates were made by the expert in economic policies, Veaceslav Ioniță. According to him, from 2011 until now, the number of voters has decreased by 346 thousand.
Until 2011, the average voter age was relatively stable at 44. After that, it increased to 45-47 years, and in the local elections of November 5, it is approaching 49 years, said economic analyst Veaceslav Ioniță.
"For the November elections, compared to the previous ones, we have a decrease in young voters by 42 thousand, from 26 to 40 years minus 44 thousand, from 41 to 55 years - a reduction of 6 thousand, from 56 to 70 years minus 27 thousand, and over 71 years we have an increase of 26 thousand. In all local elections, the turnout, compared to parliamentary and presidential elections, is 20% lower. Out of the 20%, in 10% of cases the people are not in the country, and in the other 10% - people do not really participate in the local elections", said Veaceslav Ioniță.
Veaceslav Ioniță also states that, in 2023, compared to 2019, at the national level, the number of voters in the country has decreased by approximately 6 percent. Moreover, there are localities where the population has decreased by 35%. At the opposite pole, in the Municipality of Chisinau the number of voters increased by 0.9%, due to internal migration.
