Every fifth crime in Moldova is in the transportation sector
Every fifth crime committed in Moldova is in the transportation sector, but violations of the law in this area have decreased by 25% compared to ten years ago, according to sources from the General Prosecutor's Office.
Deputy Prosecutor General Igor Demciucin said that 84% of the crimes registered in the road sector involve driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol. He also said that more and more drivers have been found with a high level of alcohol in their blood in the last three years.
"We intervened in the legislature to extend the prescription period to three years, in order to have the opportunity to document, send to court and obtain a conviction," Demciucin said. "It would be a solution to combat this phenomenon."
Demciucin also said that there are certain ambiguities regarding the term of the suspect, or how the term is calculated since the driving licence was temporarily withdrawn. He also said that the processes are delayed by the fact that there are few authorised specialists in the field to carry out the technical expertise of the cars.
However, Demciucin said that the General Prosecutor's Office has investigated 80% of the road accidents that occurred this year, the majority of which have already been sent to court.
