Moldova to experience cold snap
The Moldovan Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has issued a yellow alert for frost. The warning will go into effect on October 17 and is valid until October 19.
"In the period of October 17-19, 2023, in the night and morning hours, frosts with an intensity of -1 to -3 degrees Celsius are expected. This could have an impact on cold-sensitive plants. Please take precautions to protect your property. Dress in warmer clothes to cope with this cold period," the SHS announced.
During this period, vegetables and grapes that have not been harvested could be affected by frost.
As a result, experts recommend the following:
- Fumigation: This method reduces the decrease in temperature in the layer of air near the ground in the morning hours.
- Irrigation: This can help to reduce the intensity of radiative cooling of the earth's surface.
- Air ventilation: This process helps to prevent the formation of thermal inversions in the layer of air near the ground.
- Direct heating of the air: This can be done using special equipment that emits infrared radiation.
