Evacuation complexities: Moldovan citizens in Gaza still stranded
The authorities in Chișinău are closely monitoring the situation, eagerly awaiting official communication from Egypt concerning the potential opening of the Rafah border to facilitate the evacuation of Moldovan citizens currently in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this remains the sole evacuation option, with numerous fellow nationals already in a state of anticipation in the southern region of the enclave.
Once the border crossing becomes accessible, the consular officer representing the Republic of Moldova will proceed to Rafah. There, travel documents will be issued for those lacking passports, enabling them to transit through Cairo and ultimately return to the Republic of Moldova, as affirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' spokesperson, Igor Zaharov.
It is emphasised, however, that the evacuation process may be fraught with complexities, and up to this point, no nation has successfully managed to evacuate its citizens from the Gaza Strip.
As of now, the exact number of fellow compatriots present in the Gaza Strip remains uncertain.
