Moldova to keep natural gas prices stable despite rising international prices

Moldova's energy minister, Victor Parlicov, said on Monday that the country is committed to keeping natural gas prices stable for consumers during the upcoming heating season.

"We don't have any reason to believe that the tariff will be reduced," Parlicov told Radio Moldova. "However, the price will be stable throughout the heating season, regardless of the situation on the international market."

Parlicov said that Moldova has enough natural gas in storage to last until February. The country has purchased over 650 million cubic metres of gas, which is enough to cover about 60% of its annual consumption.

The minister also said that Energocom, Moldova's state-owned energy company, will deliver gas at a price of about $600 per thousand cubic metres. He said that he is confident that this price will remain stable throughout the winter.

Moldova began buying gas in advance and storing it in Romania and Ukraine after Russia reduced gas deliveries to the country in October 2022. The current tariff for residential consumers in Moldova is 18.06 lei per cubic metre, including VAT.
