The fourth edition of the Moldova Support Platform takes place in Chisinau
More than 30 states, as well as dozens of international and financial organizations, are meeting today in Chisinau, within the fourth edition of the Moldova Support Platform, initiated by Romania, Germany and France.
Dorin Recean: It is a gesture of solidarity shown by our friends
According to the prime minister, the representatives of the participating states, including at the level of foreign ministers, will analyze the needs of our country in the context of the crisis generated by the war of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. "It is a gesture of solidarity shown by our friends in relation to the Republic of Moldova", said Dorin Recean in a briefing. During the meeting, the Republic of Moldova will request help in three main directions, which reflect our priorities in the development of the country.
The first direction refers to the budgetary support, necessary to cover the expenses related to the payment of salaries and pensions, but also to further support the socially vulnerable strata.
Another direction relates to the creation of an Infrastructure Fund, which will contribute to the modernization and expansion of existing infrastructure, creating a solid basis for economic growth and social development. The creation of the Green Energy Fund will also be addressed.
We will focus on increasing energy efficiency
"This fund will help support innovative green energy projects and reduce our dependence on polluting energy sources. We will continue to focus on increasing energy efficiency, switching to renewable energy, but also on programs that will help us adjust to climate change," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
At the previous meetings of the Support Platform for Moldova, held in Berlin, Paris and Bucharest, our country received support for compensating the expenses in the bill, providing aid to farmers and carrying out infrastructure projects. The Moldova Support Platform is an initiative of Romania, Germany and France, which aims to generate immediate political, financial and material assistance, as well as in-depth expertise for the democratic reform process, from the institutions and member states of the European Union, G7 countries, international financial institutions and international organizations, as well as other development partners.
The purpose of organizing the Conferences is to mobilize, to concentrate and to coordinate the political, technical and financial support of the developed countries for the Republic of Moldova.
An initiative of Romania, Germany and France
The first edition of the Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Support Platform took place in Berlin, Germany, on April 5, 2022. The second edition took place in Bucharest, Romania, on July 15, 2022.
The third edition of the Conference took place in Paris, France on November 21, 2022. The current edition, the fourth, is hosted today, October 17, 2023, in Chisinau.
In preparation for the Ministerial Conferences, the meetings of the thematic working groups established on six pillars take place, as follows:
• humanitarian effort – managing the flow of refugees and their resettlement in European states; • energy – supporting the energy security of the Republic of Moldova; • the fight against corruption – supporting the Government in implementing the ambitious reform agenda, including in the areas of justice, fighting corruption and promoting economic development; • border management – internal affairs and effective border management; • financial assistance – increasing socio-economic resilience; • administration reform and public finance management.
The Republic of Moldova is in the attention of the international community. Sustaining its stability and European course is essential.
In July 2022, in Bucharest, at the second edition of the Moldova Support Platform, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, emphasized the importance of supporting the Republic of Moldova in its efforts to face the crises and to join the great European families.
"Staying united in these difficult times is crucial. This is the only way we will be able to make a difference even in wartime", Annalena Baerbock emphasized.
In the closing conference in July 2022, the head of diplomacy from Bucharest, Bogdan Aurescu, declared that the Republic of Moldova is in the attention of the international community and that supporting Moldova's stability and its European path is essential.
The Republic of Moldova must feel that it is not alone in the face of the problems it has and the reforms it will make "This conference is held three weeks after the Republic of Moldova was declared an EU candidate state, and the Platform is a necessary support for the technical and financial support of the upcoming reforms. We all know that the war in Ukraine has generated serious crises and major economic losses for Moldova. However, today, through this Conference, we managed to gather a significant contribution to support the Republic of Moldova. We must continue and even intensify the support for the citizens beyond the Prut, and the Republic of Moldova must feel that it is not alone in the face of the problems it has and the reforms it will make", said Bogdan Aurescu on July 15, 2022 .
"Moldova is at the forefront of emerging threats to the EU as a result of the war: the smuggling of weapons, drugs, goods and people. We are a committed contributor to combating these risks. But we need to increase our capabilities to protect Moldova and protect the EU from these risks. Our good cooperation with Frontex and Europol, as well as the opening of an EU security hub in Chisinau this summer, are testimony to our progress towards our common goals. But the effects of the war would be felt decades before. We must further strengthen the capacity of the police and our law enforcement bodies to deal with the consequences", declared the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, at the third edition of the Support Platform for Moldova, on November 21, 2022, from in Paris.
