Sweden donates 26 million euros to support the energy efficiency of the Republic of Moldova
Sweden is donating 26 million euros in support of the energy efficiency of the Republic of Moldova and energy supply, reads a statement of the Swedish Embassy in Chisinau.
According to the cited source, the financial resources will support vulnerable households in the Republic of Moldova during the winter and will contribute to long-term energy efficiency and the expansion of infrastructure in the country.
"Moldova was severely affected by Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Through this support package, we are assisting Moldova at this critical stage. This support will help vulnerable households survive the winter," said Sweden's Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Johan Forssell. Of the 26 million euros, 17 million will be directed to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and another 9 million to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund to support particularly vulnerable households during the winter.
Sweden is one of the largest bilateral partners of the Republic of Moldova, offering almost 17 million euros of continuous support for reforms in 2023, reads the release.
