EBRD will offer the Republic of Moldova a loan for the modernization of the railway infrastructure
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will offer the Republic of Moldova a loan of 23 million euros, in two installments, for the modernization of the railway infrastructure. Thus, the members of the Economy, Budget and Finance Committee today approved the report for the draft law that provides for the ratification of the loan agreement, reads a press release of the Parliament.
The loan will be granted for a term of 15 years.
Also, the Republic of Moldova will benefit from a grant of 20 million euros, offered by the European Commission. The money will be used for the repair of the railway segment Vălcineț - Ocnița - Bălți - Ungheni - Chişinău - Căinari.
"The renovation of that railway corridor will result in attracting volumes of goods and increasing the number of passengers. This is because, after carrying out the repair works, the movement speed of the trains will be increased, certain restrictions will be removed and the rotation time of the trains will be reduced", reads the press release.
The ratification of the Loan Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development "RLF - Crisis Response - Moldovan Railways", signed in Chisinau on June 27, 2023, will be proposed for examination in the plenary session of the Parliament.
