The Parliament appointed three members, proposed by development partners, to the Commission for the External Evaluation of Prosecutors
Parliament on Thursday appointed three members to the Commission for External Evaluation of Prosecutors, following proposals made by development partners. They are the former federal prosecutor in the United States, Christopher Lehmann (Christopher Liman), with experience in investigating fraud and money laundering, the deputy chief prosecutor in the General Prosecutor's Office of Lithuania, Irmantas Mikelionis, and the prosecutor in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Saskia de Vries.
The new members of the Pre-vetting Commission will assess the ethical and financial integrity of the prosecutors, verify their assets and expenses, as well as those of their family members.
Thus, approximately 220 prosecutors as well as the candidates for the possible vacant positions, who will win the contests until 2025, are to be externally evaluated. Afterwards, the Commission will prepare a report that will be sent to the Superior Council of Prosecutors, and the decisions can be challenged at Supreme court.
