Moscow rejects the "peace plan" proposed by the Ukrainian president
No "peace plan" can exist, if Ukraine does not recognize the four regions, illegally annexed by Russia. The statement was made by Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's initiative to prepare a "peace plan" by February.
"Again, there cannot be a 'peace plan' for Ukraine that does not take into account today's realities - with Russian territory, with the annexation of four new regions by Russia," Peskov stressed, quoted by Tass. We remind you that Ukraine wants a peace summit to be organized at the end of February, when it will be one year since the beginning of the war. Kyiv's Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba says the meeting should be hosted by the United Nations. The "peace plan" previously proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would also be discussed. Also, Kiev has repeatedly stated that it will not make territorial concessions and demands security guarantees. We remind that the 10-point "peace plan" includes, inter alia, the withdrawal of Russian troops from the internationally recognized territory of Ukraine, which would mean Russia giving up both the four regions it claims to have annexed and the Crimean peninsula, which it abusively annexed in 2014. Among Kiev's proposals is the release of all prisoners and deportees, but also the establishment of an international tribunal to investigate "crimes" committed during the war. We remind that the EU has so far adopted a series of sanctions in response to Russia's unprecedented and unprovoked military attack on Ukraine and its illegal annexation of the four regions. They were designed to weaken Russia's economic base, depriving it of critical technologies and markets and significantly reducing its ability to wage war.
