A citizen of the Russian Federation, involved in terrorist activities, detained in the Republic of Moldova
A 37-year-old man, wanted by Interpol, was detained in the Republic of Moldova, the Border Police announces. He was allegedly involved in terrorist activities and affiliation with international terrorist organizations and was wanted by the Russian authorities.
"On the night of October 28, 2023, acting on the basis of the risk alert issued by Interpol, the border police managed to detain the Russian citizen, who entered the Republic of Moldova through the Transnistrian segment," reads the statement.
According to the source, the man will spend the next 72 hours in the temporary detention cell of IP Cahul, while the authorities prepare his case for presentation in court, in order to make a decision and to extradite him.
Under Russian law, the person faces life imprisonment.
