Ursula von der Leyen begins a four-day tour of the countries of the Western Balkans

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, started today a four-day tour in the countries of the Western Balkans to present the details of the European Union’s Growth Plan for the region, Radio Free Europe reported.

“This will be an opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation and, in particular, to present in more detail the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans to the leaders of the region,” the European Commission announced.

Von der Leyen will visit the Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo, where she will talk with officials of these countries.

On October 15 and 16, the President of the European Commission visited Albania, where the summit of the Berlin Process took place. At that meeting, she presented EU and regional leaders with a new growth plan for the Western Balkans, which she says has the potential to double the size of the region’s economy this decade.

The Western Balkans growth plan has four pillars – integration into the single market, deeper regional economic cooperation, acceleration of key reforms and greater pre-accession financial support.

Von der Leyen said in Tirana that she has proposed an investment package of six billion euros, of which two billion are in grants and four in the form of loans, the implementation of which will depend on the implementation of the reforms.
