The polling stations have closed. By 21:00., 41.4 percent of voters cast their vote. Several candidates for the position of mayor of the capital made press statements after the end of the voting process.

The President of the CEC, Angelica Caraman, mentioned that, at this time, out of the 898 localities in the country, in 9 of them we have a voter turnout below 25%. In the context, she recalled that the electoral law provides that if the condition of participation in the vote of one fourth of the number of people registered in the electoral lists is not met, the elections will not be declared valid.

General local elections are taking place today in the Republic of Moldova. At this time the polling stations open. Thus, citizens are expected at the polls to elect the 898 mayors and 11,058 local councilors throughout the country. The nearly 2,000 polling stations will be open until 9:00 p.m.
The November 5 ballot is the eighth since the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Moldova and is organized according to the new Electoral Code. In this election, 57 thousand 396 candidates for the position of mayor and councilor in local councils from 35 political parties and an electoral block, as well as independent candidates, were registered. Of the total number of candidates for mayor, about 70 percent are men and 30 percent are women.
The elections are conducted on the basis of universal, equal, direct, secret and freely expressed vote according to the constitutional provisions. The right to vote belongs to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova who have reached the age of 18, including on the day of the election, with the exception of those deprived of this right by court decision. Citizens of the Republic of Moldova who have reached the age of 18 have the right to be elected local councilors, and for the position of mayor – they should be 23 years old and have at least the mandatory general education, writes alegeri.md.
In total, 1,958 polling stations will be opened and more than 7,600,000 ballots have been printed.
Two days before the election, the Commission for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Moldova (CSE) ordered the cancellation of the registration of all candidates of the "Sansa" political party. The decision was taken in the context of the report presented by the Intelligence and Security Service regarding the involvement of the Russian Federation in the local elections by financing the criminal group led by Ilan Şor. Electoral offices of the polling stations stamped "Withdrawn" in all the ballot papers, in the right of all the electoral contestants nominated by the "Sansa" Party.
Today's general local elections will be monitored by more than 1,500 national and international observers. Also, the police took all necessary measures to ensure public order during the local general elections.
