Andrei Spînu: Chisinau International Airport needs investments of up to 300 million euros
Chisinau International Airport needs investments of up to 300 million euros, said the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu, on a show on Rlive TV. According to the minister, the entire airport infrastructure requires massive investments, but neither the Government nor the Airport have the necessary funds. In this sense, Andrei Spînu says that the state is interested in attracting a strategic investor, able to develop and to manage the Airport.
"Next week a renowned French company will come to Chisinau to visit the Airport. On the one hand, the state manages the Airport, on the other hand, we want to find a long-term solution, to have a modern infrastructure and as many flights as possible. One model is the public-private partnership or concession, another model is the management contract, another model is raising a loan for infrastructure investments. It is certain that things cannot remain like this, in the next six months, the Government will have to make a decision. When the decision is made, I will come out publicly and say whether it is a management contract, purely financial investment, concession, public-private partnership. We will provide all the necessary arguments and explanations", stated Andrei Spînu.
We remind you that in 2013, the company Avia Invest, together with several Russian companies, took over the concession of the Chisinau International Airport for a period of 49 years. In 2016, Chisinau International Airport came under the management of a Cypriot company. Three years later, the Parliament created a commission of inquiry that investigated the concession of the airport and established serious violations admitted in the tender to select the concessionaire. In July 2020, the Public Property Agency terminated the airport concession contract. According to ASP, Avia Invest did not invest the promised money, over 66 million euros, in the development of Chisinau Airport.
