Last eight Moldovans evacuated from Gaza arrived in the Republic of Moldova today
Eight more Moldovan citizens from the Gaza Strip arrived in the Republic of Moldova today, informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The institution says that it was a complex process, carried out in cooperation with external partners.
“I want to express my sincere thanks to my colleagues from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially the head of the crisis cell, the secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Mîțu, as well as the teams of our embassies in Israel and Turkey. We also appreciate the full involvement of the Directorate of Consular Affairs within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially the contribution of consular officer Nicolae Cojuhari, posted in Egypt, for the support given to our citizens after leaving the Gaza Strip. Special thanks are also addressed to the state institutions, such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Border Police, the General Inspectorate for Migration, the Intelligence and Security Service, but also the International Organization for Migration, for the support given in this evacuation operation", said Nicu Popescu.
We remind you that the first Moldovans from the Gaza Strip arrived with the help of Romania, and later, another 9 Moldovan citizens returned thanks to the cooperation with the Ukrainian authorities.
We remind that Israel declared war on the terrorist group Hamas on October 7, after the militants killed 1,400 people in Israel and kidnapped about 240 others, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
The Israeli assault on Gaza plunged the strip into crisis, with mass displacement and severe shortages of food, water, fuel and medical supplies.
According to the United Nations Human Rights Chief, both Hamas and Israel have committed war crimes in the past month.
