The Central Electoral Commission: More than 830 thousand citizens are expected to vote. Electricity was off in two towns
In the second round of the general local elections, 839,239 voters are expected at the polls. At 07:00 all polling stations were open, and in two localities from Hancesti district - Carpineni and Aneni from Lapusna commune - the electricity was off for about 20 minutes, but the problem was fixed and the voting process was resumed, the President of the Central Electoral Commission, Angelica Caraman informed during a briefing.
Today, the second round of voting takes place in those 273 localities from the country, where none of the candidates was able to meet the requirements for the position of mayor and be declared the winner of the first round of voting. For the second round, two candidates are included in the ballots, Angelica Caraman said.
"Their registration in the ballots was carried out in descending order of the number of votes accumulated in the first round. Exceptions are Cotova locality from Drochia district as well as Todiresti locality from Ungheni district, where there will be only one mayor candidate in the ballots. We must mention that in the second voting round, the elections will be declared valid if at least 20 percent of the people registered in the electoral lists participate in them. At the same time, in the second round, the candidate who has obtained the highest number of votes will be considered elected. In case both candidates have accumulated the same number of votes, the candidate who obtained the highest number of votes in the first round of voting will be considered elected. If both candidates accumulated the same number of votes in the first round, then the District Electoral Council will decide randomly. In the case of single-candidate localities, he or she will be considered elected if he or she has received at least half of the votes of the voters who will participate in the elections", declared the President of the Central Electoral Commission .
In the second round, there are 544 candidates, 56 of which are independent candidates, and 488 represent a political party.
The district with the most localities where elections are held today is Orhei with 20 territorial administrative units, while Donduseni, Basarabeasca and Taraclia districts include one locality each where elections take place. In the Municipality of Chisinau, citizens with the right to vote from eight suburbs are expected at the polls to elect their mayors.
At the same time, the President of the Central Electoral Commission informs that during the elections from November 5, there was a participation of less than 1/4 of the number of people registered in the electoral lists in eight localities from the country, thus, the Central Electoral Commission organized repeated elections. In these localities, citizens will elect their local councils as well as their mayors in six of them.
Angelica Caraman also stated that the polling stations will be open until 9:00 p.m. Voters can still request the mobile ballot box today, and the request can be submitted until 2:00 p.m.
During the day, the General Police Inspectorate will ensure public order and security measures, to detect and document electoral violations.
