The Central Electoral Commission: By 6:00 p.m. 34% of the residents had voted. At Chioselia Rusa only two votes were registered
By 6:00 p.m. 34% of the residents expected at the polls for the second round of the general local elections had voted, the president of the Central Electoral Commission, Angelica Caraman, announced in a press conference. Over 63 percent voted in Corjova, Dubasari District. Meanwhile, in Chioselia Rusa, Gagauzia, where repeated council elections are held, only two people showed up at the polls.
"The settlement with the highest voter turnout is Corjova from Dubăsari District, where a participation rate of over 63 percent has been recorded up to now. We were informed that people who do not have a residence in that locality would have been admitted to vote. We have to verify this information and come up with some details along the way. The locality with the lowest voter turnout is Todiresti, from Ungheni District, where only 17% of the voters showed up at the polls", said Angelica Caraman.
In the Municipality of Chisinau, more than 31% of the residents on the list have exercised their right to vote up to this time. In Vadul lui Vodă the turnout is of more than 43%. The voters from Codru and Bubuieci are the most passive ones.
"There is a peaceful atmosphere in the district. There aren't any recorded incidents. No appeals were registered", stated the secretary of the Chisinau Constituency Electoral Council, Ina Babin.
Over 71,000 citizens are expected to vote today in Gagauzia, where the average turnout is over 33 percent.
"The most passive voters are in Cotovskoe and Chioselia Rusa. I would like to remind you that local council elections are taking place here. Mayor elections will be held on March 3, 2024. This is probably why the turnout is so low. In Cotovskoe, 16 residents voted, while in Chioselia Rusa there were only 2 voters", explained the president of the Autonomy of Gagauzia Circumscription Council, Iana Covalenco.
The Central Electoral Commission also mentions that, according to operative information presented up to this time by the General Police Inspectorate, 94 cases of violations or incidents have been registered. Here are some of them:
-
18 cases relate to the prohibited electoral agitation,
-
28 cases of organized transportation of voters (3 police reports have been filed)
-
5 situations of reasonable suspicion of voter corruption,
-
21 cases of photographing the ballot (2 police reports have been filed)
-
22 other incidents regarding violations of the electoral process.
In all cases, the investigative agents are collecting evidence to ascertain the reported facts.
