The Republic of Moldova would be the next target of Russian aggression if Ukraine does not resist, Maia Sandu

If Ukraine did not resist the aggression of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Moldova would be the next target and probably not the last, President Maia Sandu said today in Kiev. The head of state reiterated support for the war-torn country and said that Ukrainians will be welcome to us as long as necessary. Moreover, the president claims that our roads and railways will help Ukrainian goods reach export markets.

"Defending Ukraine, you also defend Moldova. Moldova is and will remain with Ukraine(...) We train Ukrainian demining teams and are part of an international demining coalition. Moldova is also providing humanitarian aid, including the necessary equipment for the uninterrupted supply of electricity to people's homes. Supporting Ukraine also means supporting your ten-point peace plan, Mr. Zelenskyy, as well as efforts to hold Russia accountable for its atrocities. You can count on us to be vocal advocates for your goals. They are also our objectives", continued the head of state.

Maia Sandu also referred to Russia's hybrid attacks against Moldova, which according to her, "don't seem to stop". In this sense, the president claims that these actions will be more and more "sophisticated" as we get closer to the EU.

“We watched the latest such efforts during local elections earlier this month through criminal intermediaries playing Moscow's dirty tricks. Parties, created to promote Russia's cause, tried to win by bribing and paying for votes - surreptitiously bringing in money to fund their activities. I am glad to tell you that our institutions thwarted their attempts. We could not allow these things to happen," said the head of state.

We remind that the president of the country went on a surprise visit to Kiev, today when it is 10 years since the Ukrainians started the wave of protests known as Euromaidan. The president of the European Council, Charles Michel, also went there. In this context, the two officials discussed the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
