Parliament voted: The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office will investigate cases of high-level corruption
The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (PA) will investigate corruption offenses committed by top officials. More precisely, we are talking about cases of corruption committed by persons whose method of appointment or election is regulated by the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova or who are vested in office, by appointment or election, by the Parliament, the President of the Republic of Moldova or the Government, except mayors, deputy mayors and local councilors.
Among the persons concerned are the president of the country, deputies, ministers, prosecutors, judges, heads of central administrative authorities or institutions subordinate to the Government and Parliament.
A draft law providing for this was voted in the second reading by 60 deputies. It was developed by the deputy from the "Action and Solidarity Party", Igor Chiriac.
The author of the document also proposes that the procedural rules regulating the competence of the criminal investigation body come into force on March 31, 2024.
Meanwhile, the vacant positions of prosecutors and criminal investigation officers will be filled, and the PA will be equipped with technical means to enable the investigation of high-level corruption cases.
