Critical supplies reach Gaza: Ongoing efforts on day two of truce
Seventy trucks carrying food, water, fuel, and medical supplies entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing on the second day of the temporary ceasefire, as announced by a spokesperson at the border crossing, according to CNN.
The aid includes three trucks containing 150,000 litres of fuel and four trucks with natural gas, stated Hesham Edwan to CNN.
Edwan added that continuous efforts are being made for more trucks to enter Gaza today to meet the agreed quota of 200 trucks in the humanitarian agreement.
The United Nations organisation stated on Friday that 137 trucks carrying aid, including 129,000 litres of fuel and four gas trucks, were unloaded in Gaza on the first day of the pause, marking the largest humanitarian convoy to enter the strip since October 7.
Sixteen injured Palestinians and their guardians also entered Egypt, Edwan said.
It is worth mentioning that on November 24, seven weeks after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, the ceasefire began following an agreement between Hamas and Israel, expected to last for four days. According to the known terms of the ceasefire agreement, Hamas is set to release 50 hostages—women and youths under 19—while Israel will release 150 prisoners.
The parties involved in the war had announced that as soon as the ceasefire came into effect, humanitarian aid shipments could enter the Palestinian territory under Israeli blockade – which, indeed, has happened. The Gulf monarchy hopes the temporary ceasefire will become permanent.
