Winter weather in Moldova: Drivers warned to be cautious
Traffic in Moldova is open as of this hour, with no blocked roads, according to police. However, authorities have issued a series of recommendations for safe driving.
Before departing, drivers are advised to make sure that the heating system is working efficiently, the fuel tank is full, and the car is properly equipped for winter driving. Due to the blizzard, the condition of the roads can change suddenly, authorities emphasise.
"If you are driving through areas affected by snow, do not stop on the roads to allow snow removal equipment to intervene. In the event of a traffic jam, to avoid the risk of getting stuck in the field, do not continue driving and choose to withdraw to populated areas, drive at a reduced speed, avoid unsafe manoeuvres, especially overtaking, and maintain safe distance between cars," are the police recommendations.
It is important to note that meteorologists have issued yellow and orange warnings for atmospheric instability throughout the country. The warning went into effect on Saturday and will remain in effect until November 26 at 8:00 p.m.
In the context of the meteorological forecasts, strong winds and heavy mixed precipitation can cause potentially dangerous situations near electrical networks, warns electricity provider Premier Energy.
The mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, announced that municipal institutions are prepared to cope with the specific winter weather conditions and to ensure the efficient cleaning of the streets of Chișinău.
