Strong winds hit Moldova, gusts up to 20 metres per second
The Hydrometeorological Service of Moldova has extended a yellow alert for wind gusts. The warning is in effect until Monday, November 27, at 1:00 pm. According to meteorologists, the wind will blow from the northwest, with gusts of up to 15-20 metres per second.
Drivers are warned that side gusts can affect the handling of vehicles, especially at higher speeds. Drivers are advised to pay extra attention when entering and exiting bridges and when merging with large vehicles.
In addition, experts recommend that drivers avoid stopping or parking near roadside trees, which can be uprooted by strong winds.
More than 1,000 police officers are on duty to assist citizens. Several accidents have been reported, including some with injuries.
In Chisinau, the capital, driving is difficult. Despite the fact that all teams are working non-stop on major streets and sidewalks, the situation is complicated by the continuous snowfall, according to Mayor Ion Ceban.
Tram traffic is also affected by the weather conditions, with delays of up to 20 minutes.
