Moldova counters Russia's destabilisation claims
Moldova has firmly countered Russia's claims of destabilisation attempts, asserting its unwavering commitment to European integration.
In a resolute response to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's remarks that Moldova would become a victim of the West's hybrid war against Russia, Moldovan Foreign Ministry adviser Igor Zaharov declared that Russia had been relentless in its efforts to destabilise Moldova since the onset of the war in Ukraine.
"Russia has unleashed its full arsenal of destabilisation attempts against our country," Zaharov stated, emphasising Moldova's unwavering stance.
Undeterred by Russia's tactics, Moldova maintains its steadfast pursuit of European integration. Zaharov underscored Moldova's determination, stating, "Moldova is moving irreversibly on the European path, and today, more than ever, we insist on the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops from our territory."
Lavrov's remarks, according to Zaharov, align with a pattern of hostility exhibited by Russia towards Moldova over the past three decades. "Fortunately, during all this time, the Western partner states have been by our side, helping us to successfully overcome these threats," he acknowledged.
In a concurrent development, Ukrainian media outlet Unian reported that Lavrov's plane deviated from its initial route to the OSCE meeting in Skopje. Instead of traversing Bulgarian airspace, Lavrov's aircraft opted for Greek airspace. This diversion stemmed from Bulgarian authorities' refusal to allow Lavrov's plane to enter their airspace due to the presence of Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman, on board.
Consequently, Lavrov's delegation was forced to navigate through Turkish and Greek airspace before arriving in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.
This incident highlights the complexities surrounding Russia's diplomatic engagements amidst the ongoing tensions in the region.
Moldova's unwavering commitment to European integration and its resistance against Russia's destabilisation attempts underscore the country's resilience and determination to shape its own future.
