Israel resumes fighting against Hamas in the Gaza Strip

Israeli military intercepts rocket fired from Gaza

UPDATE 7.15 The Israeli military's air defense system has intercepted a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip, just over an hour before the truce between Israel and Hamas expires, said on Friday morning. Israel Defense Forces, quoted by CNN. Gunfire and explosions were reported in northern Gaza, Reuters writes.

Israel's public broadcaster Kan, quoted by Reuters, reported that the sirens were the first to sound since the cease-fire that began on November 24 and has been extended twice.

Neither side has announced an extension of the truce.

Hamas has not yet commented, and the rocket launch has not been claimed.

The Israeli military said the Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted the projectile.

The Shehab news agency, considered close to Hamas, reported that explosions and gunfire were heard in the northern Gaza Strip. Other Hamas-affiliated publications reported sounds of military aircraft and drones over Gaza City. There are currently no details.
