Czech Republic braces for heavy snowfall: travel disruptions expected

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has issued a red warning for heavy snowfall in the South Bohemia (Blatna, Dacice, Milevsko, Pisek, Strakonice) and Vysocina (Moravske Budejovice, Telc) regions, effective from December 2 to 3. Up to 40 centimetres of snow are expected to accumulate during this period.

Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Issues Travel Alert

In light of the impending snowfall, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel alert for Romanian citizens who are in, transiting through, or planning to travel to the Czech Republic.

“Significant disruptions to road transport, power supply, and the supply of consumer goods are expected,” the ministry stated. “Some elements of the transport infrastructure may become impassable to rail and road traffic.”

The Czech authorities urged travellers to be prepared for possible temporary power outages in certain localities in the affected regions. They also advised following official announcements regarding road or rail blockages and to avoid unnecessary travel.

Due to the heavy snowfall, travelling to Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague is proving to be challenging. Constant intervention from authorities to clear the runway could lead to flight delays. Passengers are advised to check official information published on the websites of airlines.
