Moldova schedules first meetings for local councils

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Moldova has scheduled the inaugural meetings for the Ungheni district council and the Chisinau municipal council.

The Ungheni district council will convene for its first meeting on December 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The Chisinau municipal council's maiden meeting will take place on December 7, 2023, at 12:00 p.m.

During the same session, CEC members acknowledged the request to withdraw the credentials of Vadim Filipov, the Socialist Party of Moldova's representative on the CEC. Filipov was recently confirmed by the Moldovan Parliament as a CEC member.

Additional decisions adopted at today's CEC meeting pertain to the allocation of councillor mandates in various local councils across the country. These decisions encompass the revocation of councillor mandates upon resignation requests and the assignment of mandates to alternate candidates.

Moldovan law stipulates that a local elected official facing incompatibilities outlined in the legal framework must either resign from the incompatible position or relinquish their mandate within 30 days of the incompatibility's emergence.
