Japan aids Moldova's tuberculosis fight with $330,000 drug donation
The Government of Japan has donated a batch of tuberculosis drugs worth over $330,000 to the Moldovan Ministry of Health.
The medication will be used to treat both Moldovan citizens and Ukrainian refugees.
"This grant provides access to treatment for 50 adults and 10 children," said Angela Paraschiv, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health. "While the number may seem small, it's important to note that a single treatment for an adult with drug-resistant tuberculosis costs up to $5,000."
The donation comes amidst the implementation of the National Tuberculosis Response Program for 2022-2025, which aims to increase the cure rate among patients, improve access to treatment, and reduce the incidence and mortality of tuberculosis by 50% and 75%, respectively, compared to 2015.
"This is a significant step towards building a healthier future for our community," stated Paraschiv.
